One Week

Lydia is now a week old. It is hard to believe that she has only been here that long because I can't imagine life without her. She is a really good baby. Mostly sleeps and hardly ever cries. She only seems to cry when we change her clothes or her diaper because she doesn't like to be moved. She likes to stay curled up with her hands by her chin and her legs curled up to her body.

Below is a week recap of Lydia. It is amazing how much babies change in just one week.
Day One: February 23
Day Two: February 24
Day Three: February 25
Day Four: February 26
Day Five: February 27
Day Six: February 28
Day Seven: March 1
(This outfit was in honor of my brother's birthday- even though his birthday is February 28)
One Week: March 2

Can't Get Enough of Lydia Rose!!!

Here are some more pictures of our Princess! We are having a real fun time with her. We were able to go home Wednesday afternoon around 4 PM. The only time that she cries is when she wants to be fed or when she is getting changed. Brittany had to wake up about every 2 hours last night and feed her. It is amazing to think that just over two days ago she was still in Brittany's belly.

Baby Lydia

So on Monday afternoon we went in for our doctors appointment, and Brittany had been feeling the baby move a little less the last two days, so the doctor thought that was a good excuse to get Brittany started. So they just sent us up to the second floor right then, and got things started. Brittany was in labor for around 12 hours, and she pushed for nearly 2 1/2 hours, pretty crazy! She is one tough cookie though.

Lydia has tons of gorgeous dark hair just like her moms!
The nurse bathed her and had Justin wash her hair. She would cry when he would rub the shampoo in her hair, but she absolutely loved the warm water running down her head.

She has a little bit of a cone head due to the pressures of labor. The doctor said it would go away in 1 to 2 days though. We both think that she is absolutely gorgeous and are very pleased that she is a healthy baby. She is our new Princess and light of our lives. We love Lydia so much!!!
She was 8 lb 2 oz and 19 in long

The birth story of Lydia: I went in for my 40 week check up on Lydia's due date. It was tax season so I had already been at work that day for ten hours. I was pretty tired already. We were going to stop and get some food on the way to the appointment, but decided we would just go after the appointment.

Dr. Craig had asked me if I could still feel Lydia moving and everything and I told her that I didn't feel her as often as I had in other days. (IHC in Logan won't induce you until you are at least 41 weeks or have a medical reason and Dr. Craig doesn't like that at all). Anyway, when I told Dr. Craig that she wasn't moving she said that was a good reason for her to induce me. So, she asked us if we wanted to have this baby. In my mind I thought that she would schedule it for later in the week, but she called Labor and Delivery and told us to go on up and check in because they were waiting for us. Dr. Craig told Justin to get me checked in and then run home to get our bags.

We went upstairs and I checked in and they took us back to our room, but Justin was pretty anxious and was off to get our bags. Once you are induced they don't let you eat any food. I hadn't had anything to eat since about 11:30 (and it was about 5:00 now - and I was hungry and pregnant). I told Justin to stop and get him some food on his way back. Needless to say, I am glad that I didn't eat anything because I became very nauseated and vomited most of the labor. Now I understand why they don't let you eat!

I got an epidural around midnight and didn't feel a thing. It was nice. I didn't sleep much that night because every half hour or so the nurse came back to check on me. Justin was able to sleep through most of though.

We had started with one nurse, but her shift ended around midnight and then we got a new nurse. The first two nurses were really nice and I liked them a lot. The second nurse had me start pushing about 4:00 AM. Her shift ended about thirty minutes or so after we started pushing, but she said that about two more pushes and we'd be able to call Dr. Craig to come in. Well, the third nurse had a student nurse with her. When they first got there, they didn't have me keep pushing at all. In fact, they didn't pay attention to me at all. The nurse was too busy showing the student nurse how she would set things up if she was the one that started the process. Well, at this point, Lydia had started moving back up which meant that all of my previous pushing was pointless.

Once the nurses started focusing on me again, they had me start pushing and didn't call Dr. Craig soon enough and got worried that I would deliver before Dr. Craig got there. So, they had me quit pushing again. Once again, all my forward progress was pointless. When Dr. Craig got there she had me start pushing and I pushed with her for about thirty to forty minutes. She kept telling me that my baby had lots of hair. Justin was so curious to know if it was red or not.

Well, Lydia finally came and was healthy and happy. We love having her here. (We ran into more problems with student nurses while we were recovering and let's just say next time we will ask for no student nurses). All in all though, labor wasn't that bad and we are so excited and grateful to be parents. We love little Lydia Rose.

Valentine's Day

Justin has posted the last few posts for me. He is such a good guy. Lately he has been in charge of doing all of the cleaning, laundry, grocery shopping, and pretty much anything else he can think of or anything that I have asked him to do. He has cleaned and organized the baby's room, finished painting the shelf for it, hung the other decorations on the wall, and rearranged the furniture to where it would be just perfect for the baby. Pretty much, he has been the best husband that anyone could ask for!We started celebrating Valentine's Day on Saturday. Justin bought me flowers and a balloon along with a pedicure. The pedicure felt so good. I definitely appreciated it! I was going to post pictures of my toes all painted pretty and such, but they are a little on the swollen side right now so I decided to spare you all from having to see my fatty feet.
My grandparents came up Saturday night for a little bit and brought us Fire Engine Red Cake. For those of you that don't know what this is, it is only the best cake ever. My grandma makes it every year for Valentine's Day. It is all made from scratch and it is delicious!! Thanks Grandma!! You're the best.

On Saturday our stake through a dinner and dance. The food was catered from Firehouse and it was delicious! We didn't stay very long at the dance because I was exhausted from working all week and it is kinda hard to dance with a big ol' belly anyway.

On Sunday we had our traditional Valentine's dinner (which was purchased the day before) of a heart shaped pizza for dinner.
We were going to watch a romantic movie but ended up watching the Olympics instead. Needless to say it was a nice relaxing day.
In other news, I have less than one week until the official due date of the baby. I really don't mind being pregnant (not that I want to be pregnant forever by any means), but it isn't all that bad. The only hard part being pregnant during tax season. Not a smart idea for anyone thinking of doing it. Needless to say, we are anxiously awaiting the arrival of our little girl. Justin and I are both very punctual people (and by punctual I mean almost always early) so we are hoping that she comes early and not late. This is me at 39 weeks. Hopefully there won't be a 40 week and especially not a 41 week picture.
This is Justin at 39 weeks. I decided that I better show a picture of him too. He is still smiling so I guess I haven't been too unbearable to live with. After all at work the guys constantly remind me that pregnant women are always ornery. Justin says that I haven't been too bad, but I'll admit that I've had my days! He is so good to put up with me!

I am doing a little fun guessing game for Baby Whitmer. There will be no prizes for the winner though, maybe we will let you hold her for five more minutes than we normally would :)
So here are the things to be guessing on: (and I want a lot of replies so it will be more fun.)

  • Weight
  • Height
  • Color Eyes (eventually we will know)
  • Color Hair
  • Date of Birth (due date is Feb. 22)

Here are some pics to help you out.

Hardware/Snowshoeing/Baby Shower

The last two weekends Brittany had a baby shower, she had one for our ward and family up in Logan, and one in SLC for her side of the family. I want to thank everyone that put the time and energy into putting the baby showers together for her, she really appreciated all that was done. Also I want to thank everyone that gave her a gift, that means less money that we have to spend, and as most people know it is not cheap to have a baby. It was funny, our bishop was at the chapel cleaning and his wife was at the baby shower, so when he was done cleaning he walked into the shower and stayed a while. His name is Dennis and he went by Denise while he was in there, we have the best Bishop ever, he is a lot of fun.
So my two brother in laws and I thought that it would be a good idea to take advantage and have some guy time and go snowshoeing. Dan had three pair of snow shoes so we did not even have to worry about going and renting them.
This was my first time doing this and it was a really cold weekend so I thought that I needed to dress a little warmer. Well since you are hiking and getting your body temperature up quite a bit, even when it is 10 degrees outside you really do not need that many layers. So I had to take off a layer of my jacket, and most of the time I took off my beanie and my gloves. Dan's dog Aspen was also able to go, she really enjoyed it she just ran circles around us the whole time and she still had enough energy to play all day the rest of the day. They claim that she is a Golden Retriever but we think that she looks more like an Irish Setter, anyway she is a pretty fun dog to have around.

After the baby shower and snowshoeing the family all went to hardware ranch to see the elk that are there. I would have taken my rifle but that would be way too easy, I like a challenge when it comes to hunting.
So all in all I it was a pretty fun day.

New Years in Leeds

We were able to go down to Leeds for New Years and get some warm weather! The entire Whitmer family was there, Stacey and I were the only ones that had to travel, and thankfully the roads were really good this year (we do not want an episode of what happened last year). Since the whole family was there my mom thought that it would be a good idea to get family pictures since she would not know the next time that would happen. We were not told what colors until we were already on our way down there, so we made an emergency stop and the only thing good that I could find was this really preppy looking sweater, this is not what I would normally wear! We just went down to the farm and found a couple of cool spots.
Here are some of the pictures.. I would have more but I got a blank CD sent to me, guess I will have to teach my family how to be a little more computer smart.

I would put more pictures on but they are really big files and taking a while to load. So for New Years my mom made pretty much every kind of treat that you could think of, she is an extremely good cook! We had some of our family friends over there, Roger, Susan and Daniel. We just kind of hung out and played different games like shrades (I have no idea how to spell it), and it was really hilarious with my little nephew Trey playing the game. He is five years old and likes Bakugan so he would do that every single time. Brittany would get really embarrassed and not want to play the game but she did do it a couple of times.
While we were there my dad thought that it would be a good idea to have us help him tie his camper shell to the ceiling in the garage, so here is a picture of us holding it up.
I think that it should work pretty good, guess we will find out if it falls on the top of my dads truck.
Also my dad got a really nice four wheeler a couple of months ago, it is a Kawasaki Brute Force 700, so I rode that quite a bit around the farm.It has a lot of power, maybe he will buy me one for my birthday this year:) Brittany did not think that it would be a good idea if she went four wheeling since she was more than 7 months pregnant, and I would not of let her anyway. We also went shooting, that is always a fun thing to do while we are down there.

My grandpa always said that my parents have a million dollar view from there house, and I think that they do too. I love the contrast, and on the other side of the house is a view of the farm and in the distant Zions National Park.
So all in all I think that it was a very fun trip. I always enjoy it when we get to go down there. One of these days we will have to take advantage and go to Zions and Bryce Canyon National Parks while we are down there.
