Lydia broke her arm on Tuesday, November 13. She pulled her little rocking horse into the middle of the floor and ended up falling off of it and landing on her wrist. My mom was in town and neither one of us saw it happen. She started crying and let me hold her for awhile, but then she ran and hid in a corner. Lydia is such a tough girl that it was hard to watch her crying for so long. At first I wondered if she was crying so much because she was so tired too since we had been gone the whole weekend before and off her normal schedule, but as the day went on it was obvious that there was something wrong with her arm.
We took her to her pediatrician's office (her regular doctor was out of the office so Dr. Blackburn saw her). The doctor asked if he could look at her arm and she told him "no tank you" and hid her arm from him. She had a long sleeved shirt on and wouldn't let us pull it up because she knew once we did that we usually touched it. As soon as the doctor was done looking at her arm she quickly pulled her sleeve back down over her wrist and her fingers. She did the same thing when they took x-rays of her hand too. She ended up fracturing both bones in her wrist. One was broken from two different directions and we were blessed it didn't break all of the way off or it would have chipped off the corner of her bone.
She was crying the whole time they were preparing her arm for the cast, but the nurse asked her what color she wanted and in between sobs she said blue.
It took her awhile to get used to the cast, but she is somewhat enjoying it now. She even gives high fives and knuckles with it. She is definitely one tough little girl!
