On Thursday we headed off to the Pearl Harbor to see the Arizona Memorial, the Bowfin Submarine, the aviation museum and the Missouri Battleship.
There is actually quite a lot to walk around and see in the area.
The next picture is us standing by a torpedo that was similar to those used.
We went on the Bowfin Submarine first.
It is an audio tour that explains which each area of the submarine was and how they were able to live and work on it. I have a lot of respect for those that had to live on a submarine because just walking through it was enough for me. It is small, dark, and stuffy.
You had to pretty much crawl through these door ways to get from room to room in the submarine.
The next picture shows their sleeping arrangements. They didn't have enough beds for all the soldiers on the submarine so they would sleep in shifts and share the beds.
The next picture is the guns on top of the submarine.
After the submarine tour we walked around the memorial grounds for a little while because we had a specific ticket time for the Arizonal Memorial.
Our next tour was to the Arizona Memorial.
The Arizona Memorial is a small building that they have over the remains of the Arizona Battleship that was sunk during the bombing at Pearl Harbor.
Inside it has the names of all those who died and were left in the ship after it was attacked.
You ride a boat over to the memorial.
You can still see spots in the water where oil is leaking from the ship because the day before it was attacked they had just refueled and it is still slowly leaking out. You are also able to see parts of the battleship that are above the water.
After the Arizona Memorial we went on a tour of the Missouri Battleship, but I will post that in a different post later because this one is already long enough.
