On Wednesday we drove to Memphis. It is a six hour drive from Knoxville. We started early and made a few stops along the way. This is Lydia in our hotel room in Knoxville before we left.

Lydia did great on the car ride. We made a few stops to see some sights along the way and to let her get out of her car seat and stretch a little. Our first stop was a gas station to get fuel and treats to help us make it to Memphis.

Matthew and Lisa bought her this cute little Tennessee doll. The doll looks just like Lisa and Lydia loves it. We let Lydia sit in the front for a while and play. She thinks she is getting away with something.

Our first stop was at Parker's Crossroads which is a Civil War battle field.

We then went to Subway to get lunch and took it to another battle field close by so we could eat it there and let Lydia play on a blanket for a while.

We continued our drive and stopped along the side of the road to get some pictures of cotton fields. They were all over the place.

We continued our drive to Memphis and took a small detour into Arkansas.

Then we turned around and came back to Tennessee.

We went and checked into our hotel and then headed over to the Peabody Hotel to watch the marching of the ducks. Memphis has a trolley that runs through the town so we took that to the Peabody Hotel.

At the Peabody Hotel they have a fountain in the lobby area that had five ducks in it.

It is a 77 year old tradition that started as a practical joke. They have the ducks trained to walk out of the fountain, down a red carpet, and onto an elevator where they ride to the top floor and into their little housing area for the night. They march twice a day. Once at eleven in the morning - the march from the top floor into the fountain, and once at five at night - where the march from the fountain to bed for the night. It was actually pretty cool to watch. Definitely not something that you see everyday.

Because we had Lydia we were able to sit on the floor front row and see the ducks walk past. Lydia just sat there and stared at the ducks.

After the Marching of the Ducks we headed down to Beale Street. We were going to eat dinner at the Krazy Kanook, but they were closed for remodeling - just this week! Bad luck indeed. Matthew really wanted to go there for a great photo opportunity of their ginormous hamburger.

It is a street where they have a lot of bars, and shops, and restaurants and they have blues music playing. I guess later in the evening the street is closed down so that people can take alcohol from bar to bar. We didn't stay that late however.

Memphis is famous for the bbq restaurants and since we had to change dinner plans we ate at
the Pig. It was pretty good. Lydia didn't get to eat the bbq food. The mess on her face is just from baby food. Nothing too yummy.

Lydia had a hard time during dinner because she was so tired so when Matthew was done eating her took her outside to hang out on the street while I finished eating. What a nice uncle!

However, he did try to recycle her.

Lisa also got her fair share of playing with Lydia. Lydia loved playing with her hair.

This next picture is so people at home know that we were thinking of them too.

Mom stopped at every smashed penny place to get pennies for my little sister, Jillian.

We spent some time walking through the shops. Matthew and Lisa gave us their best Elvis impersonations.

On Beale Street, after the road has been closed, motorcycles are allowed to park on the side of the street. These were my favorite ones. I've decided if Justin gets one like this I will let him get one.

We took the trolley back to the hotel for the night. If you notice, Lydia is asleep.

This is the view from the trolley ride.

We got back to the hotel a little earlier (seven) so Lydia was able to get to bed a bit earlier than she has been. We had a fun time our first day in Memphis.
